Baroque fashion

If people listen word baroque often imagine some pictures with child´s fat angels(putti) and with golden frames on art works or simply imagine good dressed people in white wigs with tail. That´s imagination isn´t correct with reality what baroque were. Sure existed age when rich people weared white powdered wigs, but thats wasnt baroque, thats was rococo( the time which came after baroque and can be called too child of baroque). Baroque times were circa end of 16 th and all 17th century.

I will write about 17th century fashion and ornaments and application used in baroque dress of this time. Of course I love baroque fashion and here I will speak about dress of rich or noble classes, because in late feudal Europe it were rich classes who choosed what is ,,in" and how will line of figure in next fashion.

Baroque dress is wellknown by his rich colours and rich and expensive materials used on creation of these dresses. Baroque female dress had in pattern form very easy figure, but all ornaments and beauty was created by aplications from textil, coloured ribbons and bead´s embroiedery. Is paradox that in this age it was male dress which used more colours and more extravagant ornamets than female dress which was often made in distingued and serious colours and more easy from ornaments.

The number of ornaments changed too with region, religion and with geographical type of baroque fashion. On begin in earlier baroque we can see still some residuum on leaving and finishing renaisance spanish fashion. In some countries this stadium of fashion spent many years. On late renaisance/early baroque dress were used textilies with emboriedered or printed big rich ornament with full of pearls or beads applications. Especially in female dress.

Very fashionable were long chains from pearls or gold combined with gems. Colourfull dresses from taft, brocade, atlas, and hard textilies were embroiedered with geometrical forms in lines or squares. In most of catolic european countries payed that more high nobility used more colourfull dress.

Male dress was made from same coloured dresses , very fasionable were golden colours combined with dark red or black with gold combination. Opposite were countries where were majority of protestans(luterans, evangelic, kalvins etc.) Their dress was simple from decorations and both genders used black coloured , strict line looking dress without some applications. Only for serious and celebrating moments used maximaly some chain or some jewel to hairs. Both genders in both religiously different enviroments still used big ruffs and high collars which were made by complicated technic like was bobbin lace work or other kinds of laces.

In age of 30 year war(1618-1648) came be fashionable military style in male clothes. more free clothes with typical high leather sari boots and large hat called respondent. Male dress went be simple and off from some application, like decoracy used only buttons(which could be made like beads) and cuted sleeves. Emboriedery was used very rarely and only on dresses for formal moments. Female dress didnt change much , still used high ruff s collars only changed in decolt part, the bust became be showed and in fashion were deep decolts and hairs became be more free , falling on bot sides in short rules or curlies. Corsets and upper part of female dress still used rich but now more soft and elegant embroiedery (often combined with golden strong metal thread).Women used to wear very soft, small and female looking chains and elegant earrings.

Is necessary to say that european fashion was divided in few types , there existed german , french , spanish and english fashion on begin of 17th century. After later in middle became most used french type and stayed only dutch and spanish type(for west europe, different situation was in eastern europe where still were surviving regional traditional dresses with some changes and toke forms from western , especially french type of fashion).

In 1660 in young years of era of king Sun(Louis XIV) became fashion changing . Male dress became more complicated in patterns and numbers of used application rapidly growed. One male dress could have 50 and more ribbons. Upper part of dress was hiden under coat called justaucorps with long down parts which ended in middle of legs. Too 3/4 trousers called cullots became fixed and decored by ribbons and often made from textil with rich embroiedering.

Female dress didnt changed much in figure , but skirt became be opened so coudl see under skirt colour and too decolts were rapidly fall more down on mid part of shoulders and came to rounded form showing bust more than in ages before. Long sleeves became be rich in balloon form and corset was long and very strong creating almost strong case arround upper part of female body.

Corset was rich embroiedered by golden and silver metal thread with applications of pearls or some gems like couples on decolt. Skirt was embroiedered in down part in lines or was embroiedered from down to upper part . Often used were simple lines(could be too ribbons applied on skirt) or ornaments of accant letter and plants. Long sleeves coudl be fix in 3/4 by many ribbons, latter were dress decorated by many ribbons.

Here I finish for today because it would be not good for read so much in one article. I tryied divide it on intro like now , speakign in general and next parts will include only category from this baroque time whcich I most like and which ould be inerestign maybe for you too. I need to tell that I love this age and I feel inspired of these rich dresses which were colourfull and beautiful. And I want ask you one question: Did you try make some copy of these dress or similar dress inspird by baroque fashion for yourself? Or did you taka inspiration for various of your projectsexactyl from this age? If yes tell me and leave me message , I am curious and will glady read from you.

    • Swimingpool in Barrhead´s Sport centre

Hi, long time I wasn´ t looking for my blog for actualise it, for which I am sorry . The true is  that I was looking for job and still I am, and from this simply I often falled to have depression. Bu t it is for other theme. By walking to centre of town for  visit jobcentre I too decided  little do some sport for keep me at least in good condition. By surfing on internet I found adress and page about Barrhead´s sport centre and  information that they have swimming-pool , it started interest me and I got mood for visit it. Find it was very easy, because it is situated near main street of Barrhead so you cannt get lost. Big building with huge letters  are clearly saying about  what´s go :-).  Shortly after my visit I  bought monthly ticket and asked for acess card( which makes that you get better price  of ticket). I toke my  bikini and  enjoyed visit of swimming-pool. Of course sport centre doesn´t include only swimming-pool , on first floor  is big  fitness and gym for women  which one side  of wall is made from glass so  while you do some sport you can watch swimmers in pool , which is down , under the gym. Centre too include place for  badminton, squash and small bar for visitors, who too can watch swimming people across glass wall. But return to swimmingpool. What  I was surprised were too small places for put and lock your clothes, in winter time when  you need have umbrella, some good warm coat and swarm boots it is simply small. Cabines for changing clothes were ok and  I liked too that there were special  cabines for mothers with babies for have  space and  place where can comfortable change baby´s clothes( honestly in city from where I am originally  we hadnt  those special cabins ). Pool isn´t huge, is  I  would say  my mid  size and not very deep,  from one end to other is changing from  0,5m to cca. 2,3 m, which isn´t so bad ( swimming-pool in Košice had  one small pool  with 1,5m of deep  for children  and large profesional pool with more than 3 m of deep). But  thing which I most enjoyed was  temperature of water in pool, I dont know exact which degrees of Celsia it had but it was mid warm and I would say arround 20 C( but it is only my opinnion). It was very good, so you didnt feel cold and terrible icy when entered pool , like it happened many times in my city´s pool. I liked visit and swim there, plus  I always met there only few swimmers- most of them were women or  older people, however in afternoon it became be more  noisy , because  started lessons of swimming for children. All would continue great if one day I wouldn ´t find that my bikini became  be smaller( I little growed more on my weight :-D )  on me  on chest part so I couldn´t more use them for swimming and need now look for new swimsuit , what isn´t so easy here in Barrhead where  it´s looks that swimsuit is here only sezone thing or I will must visist specialised  shop with sport clothes :-D. But not matter, I can really say that visiting of  Barrhead´s swimming pool will not waste of time and you can enjoy yourself and make something good for your health and body by swimming in nice and friendly  enviroment.

    • Beads and their history

From first begins of human´s  history people liked decorate themself for various cases and ocassions. Most of decorations (there belong  beads too)were used in spiritual rituals and in  first pre-religious cults. After in first socialy divided society were used like symbol for ,,reading" social status of person and her/his  place in hierarchy of  society. Only in last two centuries started people use decoration only for enjoy themself or simply  make their beauty more visible. Processing of gems used for  production of beads was used in acient Egypt and in all old oriental states. Wooden beads were used almost in all human cultures. Acient world ( Greece and especially acient Rome knew technics of processing of glass and used it for production of carrafas and  glasses. From Romans  toke this technic acient Celts,  which became masters in producing blue/green cobalt glass.Pottery beads were used by  natives in acient pre columbians nations of latin America, Mexico and too some  african nations to today use  and produce pottery coloured beads(kenyan beads).Metal beads were made from brass, cooper, iron or silver-rarely from gold and  usually used in oriental cultures(most wellknown are beads called cloissone -what is originally chinese technic where is used metal bead with laquered email colour) and in european  cultures became more practical for using them  like buttons on coats and outside dresses. In european middleage became very popular glass beads made in Venezia by special technic and workers who  produceed it were masters in their craft. To today is wellknown one of these brands of venetian glass beads called Millefiori(thousand flowers) which original pieces aren made by masters personaly. With  growing of christianity in Europe and with starting of using devotional and prayer´s things growed too production of beads(especially wooden  beads which were most used for rosaries of priests and nuns in monasteries). Nobility used  most of silver  emailed beads or gem´s beads. With renaisance became beads be used too like aplications in textilies and dresses or like chains  for hairs.  Baroque age ( end of 16th - first half of 18th century) brings fashionable rich  using of real pearls or cloissone in upper part of  dresses and like collecions of earings, bracelets and necklases. In these times you could find beads applications almost everywhere in craft things, head acessories, in textilies used for furniture. In this time were build first manufactories specialised  on production of acessories like are beads. Industrial revolution( end of 18th and all 19th century) brings big  boom of  factory´ s machine production of various kinds of acessories and beads. In these times became very popular glass beads of various colours, design and sizes, from which best pieces very well imitated real gems and only experts for jewels could know different between real jewel and false beads. Today we have many  options and  oportunities  choose from milion kinds of beads with different colours, sizes , desing and used material. If you like your own produced beads I am sure you will know Fimo plastic material for making own beads  or simply use tools for work with ironed or cooper´s cables . Me personaly like use  small rocail  beads  which are rich in colours and sizes, but I like collect too various pieces of beads  and use them too in my art´s works  where I combine acrylic technic with  glue fixed beads. Expensive beads are today real glass one´s or if are from quality wood material.  But I think that beads are forever, their beauty is surprising us  still in today and the quantity and variations of today  products  and easy using of them for large public  is proof that beads are still fashionable and actual. Simply beads are beads :-).

    • My first autumm in Barrhead - Introduction of my living there

Hello, I would like to introduce me and what about I am going write on my blog. It is first time and it is my first blog which I write so, please (for advanced readers and bloggers) be patient with me and my mistakes. Hope by time I will get better and better. I would like to share with you about my first impressions from my new home-Scotland and about things and inspirations which i found here and still looking and searching for it:). This year my family moved from my origin country Slovakia to UK, to Scotland because of father´s job. Parents bought house in small town Barrhead, which is situated on west-south from Glasgow. Well, first I didnt have mood for leave my country and go to unknown and cold land( like I´ve heard that in Scotland is cold in summer and usually falls rain there or have strong wind) and in my country was nice hot summer( we moved in end of july 2009). I absolved interesting but tiring way across Slovakia, Czech republic, Germany , Holland(where moved to transport ship)and then from Newcastle to Glasgow. First two months we lived in small flat of my father , which was situated in eastern part of Glasgow and then when he got keys from house(I will not speak how tiring this waiting was and how obstructions and burocratic mistakes we lived to time when we got these keys). For me it was time when I started adapt on scottish weather and I must say that not what I´ve heard was true. Is fact that this year was summer really more more colder than I was acustomed to live in my country but when came autumm I was quiet satisfied and surprised how sunny, warm and quiet (not windy) was september and most of october here. I am person who is able stay sit at home on my big ass days and days if get bad mood but I am character which likes enjoy social life in keeping comunication with other people and who likes go outside for search new and interesting places near house. I started go on mid- long walks with my mother and started explore Barrhead streets and beauty of Barrhead nature here. I must say that Scotland in eyes of my people is often only Highlands and men in quilts but I found very peaceful poetry in scottish nature here. How more i started go outside more I started like it (however on begin it seemed be long depression, bu tI think it lives all expatriate who move to other country for live and work).
